Visit to the dentist

Today I actually forced myself to go to the dentist, despite huge deadlines at work. I chipped a tooth back in June and have never felt like I had time to take care of it. Sometimes I feel like I miss so much work because of the drug trial, bleeding stomas etc. that it can be a challenge to find the time (and the money) to take care of dumb routine things like teeth.

The tooth I chipped is a baby tooth. No big deal. The adult tooth is dead in the roof of my mouth and never came through. It’s pretty amazing that this little baby tooth served me so well until the ripe old age of 35. But now that it’s chipped, there’s food getting stuck there and I’m worried it will damage the good adult tooth next to it.

The dentist agreed.

Thank God I didn’t have any other problems or cavities. I just need a very long overdue teeth cleaning.

The dentist doesn’t expect any major bleeding from this little extraction. The root isn’t deep etc. But, just to be safe, he asked me to ask the experts if there’s anything he should do ahead of time etc. So, I’ll do that – but I’ve had teeth pulled before as a child and there was never much of a problem.

My wisdom teeth were another story. I had that done in the OR in the hospital with platelets. I had four impacted wisdom teeth so it was an ordeal. Thankfully with the platelets etc. I didn’t have any complications. Everything healed up nicely!
