Is there any counseling for families for families that are dealing with legally blind. My so has albinism, nystagmus and legally blind a vision of 20/400. And it's really taking a pull on me as a mother. my hubby I don't know what he thinks of every thing. He don't say much about it. and I was just wondering if there were counseling that would help us as a family.

DAR ES SALAAM - A man has been sentenced death by hanging for killing a five-year-old albino girl in Tanzania by hacking off her legs with a machete and then drinking her blood, media reported on Wednesday.

The High Court in the northern town of Mwanza on Tuesday convicted 50-year-old Kazimiri Mashauri after hearing he disappeared with the severed limbs and left her to die.

The girl's killing was one of a spate of attacks on the country's estimated 200,000 albinos in the past years, mostly in the remote northwest of the country near Lake Victoria, where superstition runs deep.

Albino hunters kill their victims and harvest their blood and body parts such as hair, genitals and limbs for potions.

Their body parts are prized in some regions of Tanzania, where witchdoctors say albinos -- who lack pigment in their skin, eyes and hair -- bring luck in love, life and business.

Al Shaymaa Kwegyir, Tanzania's first albino member of parliament, welcomed the conviction and praised the government's crackdown on the inhumane killings.

"The court ruling should serve as a lesson for others," Kwegyir told Reuters by phone from Tanga region where she is campaigning for a parliamentary seat.

Hello,

I am a Toronto based photographer, and I am planing to begin a series of portraits of people with albinism. Having recently heard about Paul Ash and his work with Under The Same Sun, I have become very interested in Albinism and how skin pigmentation relates to peoples' sense of identity and culture. Albinism occurs in people of all ethnic backgrounds, and my hope is to produce a series of portraits for exhibition showing people of various races with Albinism. Clearly culture and heritage comes down to much more then the amount of pigment in our skin and hair, and yet people often define themselves as black, white, brown etc. The way we carry ourselves, mannerisms, dress etc. are all as big a part of what makes us belong to certain culture as skin color is, and that is the purpose of this series, to make portraits that demonstrate that. If anyone on this forum would be, or knows of anyone who may be interested in participating in this project please let me know. Also, any advice is appreciated.

Hi, There is a local contest going on in the cleveland area for the cutest baby. We have entered our daughter who has OCA1a. I would like to ask if we Could have your support in helping her win cause i think it would be great if a child with albinism won. At first i thought i would have been afraid to post her picture anywhere else let alone have a chance to be aired on the news. It was not till last sunday a comment from a complete stanger gave me the courage to enter her. I always thought people would look at her and be spooked by her apperance so to say as it has happened a few times. but lately the more we have taken her out as she has gotten older it has been the complete opposite. there are still the ignorant people but the more people i have ran into that were positive the more it helps to not let her albinism get us down.

If you are a local in the cleveland area with a child between 3 months and 18 months why not give it a go? The deadline for entrants is tomorrow evening and voting will start on the second of july. Any one can vote as well just have to sign up at the web site. I am really excited for this 8,000 people so far . best to the luck of the draw. Even if you dont vote please say a prayer.

Anyone need gently worn baseball caps?
