    "You don't look Albino"

Has anyone else heard/had to deal this? I get it every now and then and It's driving me crazy. I have pale skin, grey eyes (One is partially pigmented and has a weird wedge of green-brown), and straw-colored hair. I've been diagnosed as OCA2, but when I try to explain about my cane, I get funny looks. It's really frustrating, because I try to educate as well as I can, but people seem to have trouble believing it.

Partially venting, part wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this. I know one side of the coin is people being skittish or judgemental of you because of how you do look, and I get to put up with the other side, people assuming I'm crazy or lying because of how I "don't look".

    Re: "You don't look Albino"

i have OA (not sure what type) and Nystagmus but all hat people notice are my glasses so everytimes i miss something and i say that i did not see it i get phrases like "how didn't you see it, your wearing your glasses" so what i do is that i explaine my problems not caring about the facs they give me and if they sey " oh really" then i remove my glasses and get nose to nose with them so that they would notice at least my Nystagmus

propebly the best thing to do is to give them this link

     http://www.albinism.org/publications/what_is_albinism.html

and tell them that if they don't believe you they should check this out then turn your back and walk away

i am 16 years old soon to be 17 and i have Ocular Albinism Nystagmus and Photophobia
i advice you all to read a book called "missing pieces : a chronicle of living with a disability"

hie I know what you mean sometimes I get tiredof trying to explain to people. It doesnt make sense that I cant see far, or I hold my book close yet I am wearing specs. Sometimes it bothers me but at times I just shrugg it off. Last week we were standing on paradeand it was really hot i forgot my sunscreen and I had no hat so I asked one woman if we could swop places because she was sheilded by a tree. She looked at me like I was some strange being and said she also doesnt like the sun. this was a really dark African woman, i asked the men next to her and he obliged but for the rest of the day I had to pray to br righteous because when she got up to read and she strugged I want ed to stand on my head and laugh.

When I tell people I have albinism I usually get the "but you don't have red eyes" (have blue) I just make the subject light and give them a brief explaination and answer any questions they have. This is really something I suggest letting roll of your shoulder or you will go through life with a lot of frustration as it will not go away.  Good luck!

Hey Bro I live in a decent sized city and take public trans to and from where i need to go so i usually get questions too you can't get upset bro even you yourself has asked a rude question atleast once take it for what it is curiosity not disrespect i know that sounds like a load man but as you grow  your going to get alot more confident in yourself and realize that people are generally ignorant (not an insult) they honestly just have no idea

It's not that I am asked rude questions, I totally understand that and try to clear things up, it's that I answer truthfully, try to educate, and people act like you're faking it or crazy because you don't look like people think a person with albinism should. I'd actually prefer questions, I think, rather than eyerolling and huffing about how I must be wrong.

I am having little notecards printed up with a brief rundown on albinism and resources, though, so have at my convention table when I'm selling art, and to give out to people who are curious.

I understand completely And i much rather have questions but I think maybe it has something with how you present it If your nervous and uncomfortrable you probably wouldn't do as good a job of explaining it at least thats how i always felt but if you look them in the eye and keep a friendly but serious vibe going they should understand atleast enough to make them leave you alone , That a good idea about the cards too .
