Ok, here is my topic o' the day folks! What are some of the strangest questions people have ever asked you about or related to your albinism?

My Top 5 list!

1) Is "all" your hair that color?

2) Can you attract metal objects to your body?

3) Does everything move back and forth?

4) Are you wearing contacts?

5) Is that your natural hair color?

1) "Have you always had albinism?"

2) "Do your eyes glow in the dark?"

3) "Can you stop moving your eyes its really annoying"........

4) "So what part of Sweden are you from?"

5) "With hair that colour I bet you look great in the summer with a deep tan"

6) "Are you an Albanian?"

The list could go on and on and on..........:O)

As a parent, my favorite ones are:

1. Is he really your child?

2. How do you get his hair so blond? (as if I color it). Or, Where did he get such blond hair?

3. He's not visually impaired (i.e. "look at what he's doing, he can't be visually impaired")

4. He can see fine, he's just manipulating you - there's nothing wrong with his vision (I appreciate these folks who have decided they are somehow more qualified than pediatric opthalmologists or vision specialists).

5. His hair will change color when he hits puberty (or turns 12, or some other "magic" age)

The list could go on, but these are the ones that come to mind right now. . .

people do ask some weird questions that sometimes are so weird that I can't help but laugh. Here's some questions i get asked often:
1. Are you allergic to the sun?
2. Do you have night-vision?
3. Do you glow in the dark?
4. Does everything you look at move back and forth?
5. How many fingers am I holding up?
6. Are you from Albania?
7. Are you biracial, white, or hispanic? (I'm african american)
8. How far can you see?/ Why is the book so close to your face, can't you see it?
9. Do you have magic powers, can you read minds?
10. How long have you been albino?
11. Are you adopted?
and that's about all of them.

These are hilarious, i just don't know if im supposed to laugh or cry at the ignorance of all these folks! Hey Jenee, I surely get the same type of thing. THe nationality ones crack me up the most, especially when they ask the question after I tell them my heritage. I've been called Irish, Sweeidsh, French, and American, while I'm really just north african.

Keep the stories coming..... I still can't think of any besides, "why is she so white!" or other snide remarks like "do u know what the beach is?" (Lets not even get into reactions..)

As a mother I used to be asked for:

1. God, he is so white !
2. How come his hair can be that blond? Your hair is so black.
3. He is so cute, is he your son?
4. His eyes are great ( grey color ). Is your husband an American?( I'm a Chinese )
5. His eyes are dancing. Hmmm, it's cool...
6. Is his hair real?

Well, I guess we just have to be more patient in meeting people like this.

Oh boy what a topic! My favourite ones include:

Are you Sweedish, German, or English? (I am Italian!)

Is your hair naturally blonde?
Is it the same color all over your body?
Are you "sensitive" to the sun?
Do you tan?
I am talking to you. Why are you looking over there?
Do you glow in the dark?
You are not wearing any glasses. I'm sure you'd be able to drive!
Are your children going to be the same way?

That's about all I can think of for now. I've learned over the years that it's just plain ignorance and that they're really not trying to be mean(all right some of the time).

I have been asked most of the questions already posted but there are a few you guys might find ammusing
1 Where do you come from
2 do you eat like a normal person
3 do I look fuzzy to you
4 can I catch albinism (the guy who asked me this was totally rude about it and would freak out if I touched him)
5 why are your eyes so red
6 what color are your eyes (people are always telling me my eye color)

That's all I can think of at the moment hehe I could go on and on about the rude questions but that's a whole different topic

The conversation contiues: "I went to school with (fill in the blank) a long time ago. I thought you might be related."
"You look familiar, so I thought I'd ask."

Happens all the time, especially when I moved several times in a short span.

~OH MY GOD! How do you make your eyes move like that!?!?

~You should get a tan! It would look great with your hair color (this was ansered with me bursting out in laughter)
~do your eyes glow red in the dark like my hamster's? (a few days later at a camp sleepover asked by the same girl in the dark "HEY MEGHAN ARE YOUR EYES GLOWING RED YET?!"
~is that your natural eye color?
~do you bleach your baby's hair? (asked to my mom by some lady when I was about 2 MONTHS OLD!)

Nice list - Some new ones there for me.
My favourite was at a railway station in UK when I asked a porter where is exit. The reply was "Can't you see the sign up there? ... Are you blind?" His confusion / embarrassment when I replied "Yes, I'm blind" was just great! - what a twit!

The stupidest question I get asked - and it's happened a few times - goes as follows:

Q "Why don't you drive?"
A "Because my eyesight isn't good enough"
Q "Why don't you get a better pair of glasses then?"

(Doh! If only I'd thought of that!)

Can't you get some kind of laser surgery to fix your eyes?

When I was going to grad school in Rapid City we had to dissect a raccoon and clean up it's skeleton. One of the best ways to do this was to use peroxide on the bones. After about my twentieth visit to the C-store across the street from the univeristy to buy the stuff, the person behind the counter asks, "Is this what you use on your hair?"

Pretty funny...

sorry to say but i used to be one of those people who asked silly questions.
when i first met my friend i had to admit when i seen her from a distance i thought she was an old woman with log light blonde hair, till when i seen her up close i found out she was the same age as me lol.(no offense to any 1) Man did i feel stupid!!!
Then i had to ask one of the most stupid questions ever....
What is it u actualy see like??? (it didnt dawn on me till later that she was born like that ad couldnt compare it to wat i see) I felt even more stupid
So thats how i ended up at NOAH to help me understand

This bords gr8 even though im one of those people it still crackes me up
