    special glasses?

I have just found out that my son has ocular albinism, we are getting our glasses ordered tomorrow. Are there certain glasses that they are only able to use due to the needs, or are they able to choose whichever type? What about sport glasses? Any suggestions? "Learning from your own lessons" to share?
    thank you!

    Re: special glasses?

I chose wire flex frames for my son (he was 9 mos old at the time) and polycarbonate lenses (lighter weight) Thought it would be easier to wear and look better. has had the frame replaced once (yes, he broke the flex frame), lenses replaced once (both under warranty--don't use the scratch warranty until really needed, but always before it runs out)and replaced a bit off nose piece for $9 which I don't think is bad for a toddler. I had to pay myself for the glasses--insurance would not pay the extras, and not at all for me to get them at a shop specializing in children, AND recommended by his vision teacher and case worker for the Division of Blind Services.

    Mellissa,

Welcome to NOAH! My name is Brittany and I am in Charlotte, NC. Well, we live in Fort Mill, SC, but I work and do everything else in Charlotte.

Anyway, my son Zachary is 2 1/2 and has OCA1B, we think. He got glasses when he was 1, but wouldn't think about wearing them until he was about 2. He has broken them twice. We are waiting to get a second opinion on his prescription next month before replacing them this time.

How old is your son? Did you see a pediatric ophthalmologist in Charlotte? We go to Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat.

Welcome again! You will find so much help here.

    How old is your son.

Mine is 2 and his glasses have a flexable hook on the ears (cable temple) to help keep them on and a built in bridge since at age 2 most kids have not developed a bridge and this helps keep them on his face. We also have anti glare lenses and polycarbonate

    Similar to these

    Kira,

Those look just like Zach's glasses that he recently broke in three places!! Agh!

Oh no Brit. Kyle was so rough with his for awhile but now that I think he is adjusted to wearing them he either keeps them on or give them to me to put in the case. We were getting adjustments once a week for awhile there

    Bonnie,

If Daniel has astigmatism then you should fix the fit of his glasses. The photo shows that his glasses are some 10 degrees out of horizontal - and this will seriously impact his script.
