    I did it.....

Well, I did it.... I went down to RI Serv for the Blind and Visually Impared to lodge a complaint. It is THEIR office, THEIR workers and THEIR specialist who told me for YEARS that I could not drive. I spent a half hour with a worker (supposedly mine) and another half hour with her supervisor.... The Feds were in today, going through their records and services... Wish I could have complained to them too!!!! The worker tried the 'it's not our fault, why didn't you go to the DMV when you were 16 and find out for yourself' crud.... Why? Because your office and the specialists you sent me to told me that I couldn't! Stop refering you clients to inadaquent vision rehab services and get educated! I was nice, calm, polite but obviously frustrated with the worker and her constant shift the blame game. I educated them on my process, the laws and the services their clients SHOULD be getting. Their office doesn't even know abou bioptics! I gave them the names of some specialists and recommended they look at Dr Peli's work.... Will they? I don't know. I do know that my brother should get in there, reopen his case and apply to make THEM pay for a portion of his bioptics and driver training though! I just had to go down there though.... Right now there are young people whom they are being told by these boobs that they can't drive and that just isn't right!!!!!

And the bad news..... I don't mind driving downtown. Parking stinks! I found out before I left the office that they have a garage for parking a couple of blocks away and will validate. That would have saved me.... BIG TIME! I got my first ticket.... A PARKING TICKET!!!! I was one of many cars parked in a Reserved for city employee's zone. None of them had tags to park there or tickets so...... I come back out to find a $100 ticket for parking in a tow zone!!! GRRRRR!!!!!!!! DH is gonna KILL me!!! Maybe I can pay it without him finding out? His name is on the registration.

    Re: I did it.....

    Hi Cheryl,
I'm not aware of the full story here, but good for you! If from what I understand there are people giving out erroneous information that can have a profound effect on someone's life then they should be held accountable. If they are going to be in the business of assisting others with such important matters then you should be educated on all the facts, available technologies, assistive devices and medical breakthroughs...

For years no one told me that I could drive if I followed certain proceedures... They just told me I couldn't. While I don't think they are evil I do get upset about it. My low vision specialist at John Hopkins, Dr. Park who helped me get my license, told me that I could have been driving a long time ago. I do get upset about what could have been, but I can't let that eat me up. I believe things happen at the right time and perhaps my getting my license when I was more mature and serious about it was the best thing to happen.

Hey, doesn't it feel good to drive and say I got a ticket! You rebel Cool

    Re: I did it.....

Oh, update.... I went downtown to pay my ticket last week. I circled and cirled the area around the police station, LOOKING for a LEGAL place to park! NOTHING! I had to PAY $5 to park in a lot to avoid getting a ticket as I went to pay the one that I had! Wonderful, huh? Anyway, I went in to pay the ticket and told the court clerk that I HAD park illegeally, I parked in a city employee zone. No where was there a sign that said Tow Zone. I told him that I thought about going to court to fight it but I did wrong and did deserve a ticket. I was going to pay it and learn an important lesson. Frown Well, I hand him the ticket and the money and he slashed the ticket from $100 tow zone violation to a $30 parking in a restricted!!!! I was so thankful! It pays to pay it promptly and in person AND to be polite and honest! YAY!!!!
