AS a mom with two children with albinism under the age of six, I have heard and have seen a lot. One of the most ridiculous was when I was asked if I bleach my daughters hair. My response was-oh yes- I have her roots done every four weeks "give me a break." I don't mind questions asked, however this particular one I felt was based out of some sort of jealousy, or straight out ignorance.
I hear constantly...oh, both of your children have that hair, how did that happen? My answer is well, I have two chilren with the same man, my husband. This usually keeps them quiet for a while to think..
I don't always respond this way, I hear the same questions over and over at least six times a day when going out. I respond for each situation. My usual response is yes isn't it beautiful, I would save alot if I were a true blonde like them, I only wish- you guys all know the deal.
However, my problem with the term albino of course is newer. I know this condition is so rare, and forever ignored and simply rarely acknowledged.
Because a person has a condition does not make who they are.
I guess it has been accepted over the years, as a lot of definitions regarding people. However, I wish all of us on this board would stop using the word "Albino"
This is not "you", this is not my children- this is a condition
With the internet as it is, we all have the power to stop this, I mean come on, things change, imagine what people would call a person with autism- or down syndrome-or aspergers syndrome-years ago?
Although this condition is rare, we still need to move on, as every one else has seem to do.
Let me know what you think
