My son needs a lock for his locker

We have been searching for a lock for my son's school locker.  Next year he will be in middle school and the school requires that each locker has a lock.  Has anyone found a lock (that does not require a key) that works?

I worked with a child who needed a lock and the vision department found an awesome one- it had buttons to push in for the combo instead of twisting and matching some tiny line. You might check with a vision department- I'm not sure where they found the lock to purchase.

This site has 2 made for people with low vision. I am sure you could buy them from them or elsewhere on the web

We had the school assign our son a locker with a combination that had all three numbers end in either 0 or 5. This was alot easier for him and with a little practice he mastered it.

My senior has never used his locker.  He keeps all his large print books in the respective rooms and then the rest he keeps in his back pack.

I guess I have to ask - why not a key lock?

My son is a senior in high school (sob!), and he has used a key lock on his locker ever since junior high.  He cannot see the numbers on combination locks, and the school has actually provided him with a key lock throughout.  I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to use a key lock, since they are not necessarily any easier to 'pick' than combination locks. My son puts his key on his house key chain that he carries in his pocket (or zipper part of his backpack). He hasn't had any issues with losing the keys, and the school also keeps one key in his file, just in case something happens.

You could try a 3 or 4 number combo lock.  It has 3 or 4 separate dials.  I found the 4 dial one is best.  I would also suggest going to the local locksmith.  Some often carry more padlocks then any store would and they sometimes carry odd or special locks for different needs.  It wouldn't hurt!

My students usually prefer the 10 digit pushbutton padlock.  They do not have to see the numbers to input the combination.  Sometimes you can find them at your local drug or office supply store, if not you can order them online from mrlock.com   They cost less than $10.00.

Re: My son needs a lock for his locker

    Hello,

I was in the same exact situation when I went into middle school.  I couldn't read the numbers on the locks but I wanted a locker and when I used a key I was picked on horribly.  My mom requested an end locker so I didn't have trouble finding which locker was mine and also requested that the regular lock be take off so I could use a different lock.  This is the website for the lock I used:  http://www.masterlock.com/apps/catalog/product.jsp?subId=CPL_6&target=school|locker&pkg=1

This lock worked well becuase the numbers are bigger and you can twist and there are only for numbers.  The combination can be changed by your son at any time as shown on the website.  I do not recommend using the same number beucase my brother did that and had people breaking into his locker frequently.

    Hope it helps

    Sheila
