Re: Surgery Concerns - Not to Worry

From what I hear he is. He uses a EMR ( I forget what it stands for) and tracks your individual eye movement and it is recorded in a computer. If you go to the nystagmus network website he has been their guest speaker and has researched it, I think for 10-15 years.  He is going to spend the next 10 years developing a drug that is also suppose to help.  The american nystagmus network may have more on him.   The nystagmus network in the UK also has the names of a few doctors who are knowledgable in the field.  If you go onto the UK Albinism Fellowship forum they maybe able to give you some information as well. I hope this helps.

Re: Surgery Concerns - Not to Worry

As a mom, from what we experienced, I wouldnt ask for any other Dr. other than Dr. Hertle.  I think Brian and I had the best posible care from start to finish.  From what I researched on Dr. Hertle to meeting him, I knew that we had the best Dr. for my son.  Even my son Brian who is 14 yrs old thought and still thinks Dr. Hertle is the best Dr. he has ever had.  He defintely is very well skilled in what he does but also has a good rapport with both his patients and parents.  I, as a parent was very pleased with Dr. Hertle.  Yes, in my opinion he is the best, and you would be in excellent care.

Re: Surgery Concerns - Not to Worry

Hi, and your very welcome.  Brians vision before surgery was tested at 20/200.  It has now been 13 days.  The day after Brians surgery, Dr. hertle tested his vision and it came inbetween 20/80 or 20/70.  Dr. Hertle was also able to prescribe Brian glasses and tinted contacts.  Brian never had any prescription glasses before as his close range vision, I was told, was good.  It was always his far vision that was compromised.  With the prescriptions I am hoping for even better vision for my son.  In Alberta, Canada the vision requirement is 20/50 for a drivers license...so we will see...Brian will be seeing his eye Dr. here on the 23rd, and we will know more, Brian however has been studying for his drivers.  I should be able to let you know in the next few weeks.  Brian started his very first job tonight at Safeway, so this year so far has been extraordinary for him...first his vision being improved dramatically and now a job!
