    Patterson!

I knwo that the circumstances are a bit...sticky, but I think that it is awesome that the new NYS Governer is legally blind! GO BLIND PEOPLE! Having him in this position has really opened so many people's eyes to learnign more about others who are legally blind. NPR has been covering stories all week explaining what it is like to have low vision, and I jsut think that it is fantastic :)

    Meghan,

I totally agree with you about having Paterson as Governor here in New York State. We're just going to need to have and see how much of a difference He'll make.

Paterson, has the blind and visually impaired communities attention not only in New York State but also nationally as well. Because  he's not just visually impaired but he's also only the third African American since reconstruction to be governor. The second person is Governor DeVal Patrick in Massachusetts.

It will also be interesting to see if Paterson will run for re election after he finishes out Eliot Spitzer term.

    Re: Patterson!

I think it's great too! As someone who is currently trying very hard to get a job, I feel that there's a good chance my vision problem and obvious nystagmus are causing employers to pass me over even though I have great work experience and GPA. I think a person like Paterson with similar issues in such a prominent position and in the media will help people better understand that issues like limited vision will not keep a person from doing a good job and excelling in their career. Let's just hope it doesn't backfire with PAterson getting involved in scandals of his own! I'm a regular watcher of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and they had their "senior black correspondent" talking about Paterson and how the blind community shouldn't try to steal Paterson away from the black community as a role model. I was thinking that the black community has plenty of role models in high positions, but us blind people don't really have any, so we should be able to claim him! (just kidding, of course)

I just watched Gov. Paterson on The Colbert Report. What an inspiring human being. To see someone with nystagmus on a prime time cable show was a very exciting and inspiring! There are so many people out there paving the way for people with low vision, and people with nystagmus. There are no limits to what people with low vision can accomplish.
