I stared writing this yesterday ....then realised I ws still at work....or well this is may ....too late
Are there any times that you wished that you were totally blind and not
visually Impaired?
“… I was angry I had no shoes…then I
met a man with no feet…” In life there is always someone worse off than we are.
So the question becomes why would I want to be the guy who is worse off than
the guy who can see a little? I don’t see a reason for that ….do you?
Do you think that you would have been treated differently if they were
blind?
Don’t really know about that. Though I
have come to realize that it is not visual acuity that determines how people
treat you but rather it is the way you present yourself. Though I have also
come to realize that some people start treating you differently soon as they
discover that your vision is not as good as theirs. I have had to remind a
couple of people that I am visually impaired….not stupid.
Do you feel that because you are visually impaired that sometimes you
are not taken seriously?
I am always taken seriously. I don’t play
….I call it like I see it (blurry and all). If you don’t stand up for you …nobody
else will
What types of problems does your visual impairment cause for you?
Don’t get me started….what kind…??
Every easy thing you can think of ….but thank God for Magic….I can use a
computer with no hassles…
Have you ever been discriminated againist due to your visual impairment?
Not that I know off …though I am
tempted to think that I have been let off the hook for some things due to being
visually impaired.
Do you have friends their own age who are blind or visually impaired?
No….it is hard being friends with
people who are visually impaired or blind. I know I would not be my friend if I
had to give me a ride to work every day. I am sure that most of my friends are
fast becoming sick of picking me up and dropping me off. So I took care of that
problem. I live in a place where there is easy access to the bus. And besides I
don’t have a problem walking every where.
Do you get tired of having to always educate people where you go about
your visual impairmnent?
Educate….? Everybody needs to mind their
own business….I don’t bother to explain nothing because the moment you open
your mouth they will ask you every question you have ever heard and even the
ones you have never heard.
Have you been introduced to the white cane and how old were
you?
No I have not been
introduced to the cane. As a matter of fact I only started wearing glasses when
I was 24….I had adapted to going close to look and besides glasses don’t really
improve my vision.
