    New PO

    Hey, everbody!

I have an appointment for Jathan with his new PO on August 9th.  Does anybody have any suggestions on what questions I shoud ask or what I should look for?  The first PO that I went to was horrible and left me crying for weeks.  He was so negative and didn't answer any of the questions that I had. He told me Jathan would never drive, never play sports and be significantly delayed.  He didn't tell me anything about his vison.  To top if off he kept using the word "Albino" and even put in his report.

    Re: New PO

ask him what his full diagnosis is.  I have this problem with all doctors.  Like I have persist they tell me.  Dr. Hertle gave me a full print out.

She has myopic astigmatism, ond(optic nerve dysplasia),foveal hypoplasia, nystagmus, I know I am missing one.  Anyway whatever he says ask him what it is and how that effects him and ask him if he has any additional info on it.  My doc gave me copies out of his books on it.  I like info.  Try not to go alone so you can concentrate on what he is saying.  One mom brought a tape recorder to her appointment. That way you can do your own research.  I do not remember them dialating Lexie's eyes that young, but my first PO did not really do much so that might not by a guideline to go by.

    Roxanne,

Thanks! My appointment is with Dr. Hertle.  It has been changed to Aug 11.  We see Dr. Hertle at 2:30 and then have wavelength testing done at 3:30.  I am excited to find out everything that I can, but I am nervous as well.  I have told you about my experiences with the past PO that I have seen and I don't think that I can take any more bad news.

    Thanks,

    Vickie

    Re: New PO

Oh wow that is great.  Dr. Hertle sent me a 4 page diagnosis on Lexie and Matt in the mail.  It is nice to have it in writing too. It was a different doctor who gave me photocopies.  Dr. Hertle is very informative and takes his time with you.  He is pretty positive in general, I think.  It is so conflicting to be upset your child has anything wrong but how happy I am to get a diagnosis and help them.  Dr.Yang(I think that was his name) is very kind and patient while he takes the wavelength readings. I hope you feel better after seeing him and travel safely!

    Roxanne,

Thanks! What types of photocopies did he give to you?  Do you know what books it came out of?  I am so interested in obtaining as much information as I can.

I hope that you and your family are all doing well.

    Thanks!
