    got advice on sunscreens

     Hello All-

I took both my sons to the pediatric dermotologist the other day and he gave me a nice handout on sunscreens.  In a nutshell, this is what it said:

*make sure it has UVA and UVB protection

*It should contain ONE of the following ingredients:  Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Parsol 1789 (avobenzone) or Ecamsule

*It should contain a photostabilizer (ocotcrylene)--it extends the duration of some protection.  (I think this is a new thing)

So, I use Coppertone Water Babies (50) and it contains all of the recommendations.  He also said that sprays are not good--especially for the initial spray.  He HIGHLY recommended the rashguard shirts for swimming.  I started to ask my friends and they buy them at Target or Lands End.  Lands End was highly recommended--but the doctor buys his at Dicks Sporting Goods too.  I already purchased 2 at Target and will purchase more at Lands End.  The doctor said that Sun Precautions is too expensive and the ones they sell now at Target are good (get at least 20-30 SPF).

Zach looked good--he has some moles (they are clear/pinkish) on his head that I never even noticed.  They are just regular moles, but definitely not like his brothers.  The doctor said to bring him being in 1 or 2 years--he wasn't concerned.

Thank you for posting this. I'm always wondering if i'm using the right kinds.

I also use Coppertone Water Babies, I recently bought the new SPF 70+. It seems to be working fantastically!

Thx for posting this.  We tried Coppertones water babies on Cash, and it broke him out. (so did Bull Frog)    But.. I have found that Neutrogena extra sensitive SPF 60 works pretty well.

I want to make Cash an appointment w/ a dermatologist.  Ive noticed a white/clear looking mole on him... and he has a major rash/excema on his legs.

Thanks, Jo.  We just used the new Water Babies Pure & Simple SPF 50 at the beach this weekend and it worked well.  It contains zinc oxide which makes it rather thick and hard to rub in, but a little patience and everything was fine.  His little feet did get pink one day because he was in the water so much that it washed off his feet quickly.  It was gone by the next day, though, and we made sure to reapply even more often.  He also wears the Land's End long-sleeve rash guard and board shorts, which cover a lot of skin.

I use Coppertone Sport...actually it's right here next to me! We got the new 70 SPF. I <3 it--we've been using it for years.

We were told to use mexoryl which is in L'oreal Ombrelle or La Rouche Posay's Anthelios b/c they are both total blocks for sun reactive skin.
