National Conference, DC > Travel Itinerary

     Hi,

We are planning a travel itinerary to Washington DC from New York. Is there any coach service from NY to DC? Coach fare per person? Journey hours? or perhaps, rent a car?

We love sightseeing in DC and plan to go Disneyland end of this year.

Any must-go places in DC ?

    Thank you.

     Warmest Regards,

    Isaac

Re: National Conference, DC > Travel Itinerary

I live in Virginia and have been to DC several times. There is of course all of the monument attractions. The National Zoo is huge. You will need a full day to get through it. I really recommend the small animal house; the elephant shrews made my two year old go into fits of hysterical giggling. And they had all kinds of cuddly rodents in there that I had never seen in a zoo before. And they had some really, really hideous creatures too. If you like cute and ugly, go there. They also have pandas if like those. To get through the entire Smithsonian, you will need at least three days. Four is best. We have not gone in all of the museums despite having gone there four times. We could only stay for a day at a time because hotel prices are sky high. I enjoyed the natural history museum; they also have a changing culture exhibit.I have also heard good things about the National Air and Space museum but I think it closes earlier than the others. You willwant to check the hours because everything closes around 4 pm. The Holocaust museum is very, very intense, very graphic and very sad so if you have children be aware. Just walking through the buildings is really cool. The sidewalks are marble and the buildings are too. I have never been in the official buildings but sort of want to. I am torn because I just found out that I may have albinism but I was planning to go back home to NM finish my degree before then. Now I find the conference is going to be right outside my door practically. I don't know if that is a blessing and if I should try to go, or if it is worth going. I would probably cry because I have a lot of feelings about this from childhood and being surrounded by people who are similar to me might be overwhelming. July is cutting it short as far as going to school in the fall is concerned. And the cost feels a bit much for us. Do you pay just for the person with the condition, or is it 175 per family member? Hope this helps. Also there is no entrance fee for any of the sites.
