Phone round a few solicitors and find one that is sympathetic to your situation. Ask him/her about the relevant driving legislation regarding vision, and what constitutes 'corrective lens's' in the legislation legal jargon. This is necessary as you may need their support if a test examiner isn't happy with you wearing so many 'corrective lens's'.
You will also need a sympathetic driving instructor. Although they are unlikely to have any experience of working with someone wearing a bioptic, they will be able to asses if you are driving safely. Most good driving instructors are on speaking terms with the local examiners and may be able to prepare the examiner for what he is about to see.
>Who tested your eyes and how much was the aid that you wear for driving?
Contact Ocutech is the US. They should be able to give you contact information of a sympathetic practitioner/Ocutech distributor in the UK. The distributor I used is no longer in the low vision aids business.
My vision is corrected to 6/12 which is just outside the standard for passing the curbside eyesight test. The Ocutech VES (4x magnification) device gave me the edge to pass the test.
I have used the word sympathetic several times, as you will need help and advice from people you have not yet met, but you may also run into some very unsympathetic people - so be careful who you talk to. One last point, a car is one ton of killing machine, you must be sure that you can drive safely.
Good Luck
