    African American Singles with Albinism

How are you all dealing with being single and dealing with your parents. My mom means well but I wonder sometimes does she understand that people in our society don't see the me on the inside. They see the fair skin and the bright white hair on the outside. I am a Christian and have tried to live a holy life directed by God but sometimes I wonder if He has forgotten me also. We, persons with albinism, are a unique group of people. I have worked very hard to become the best Special Education teacher that I can be and the best teacher in Children's church that I can be, but the Friday and Saturday nights are lonley at times. Brothers and Sisters, how are you dealing?  Our parents want us to grow up, get married and live a wonderful life but this is not easy when men are not all that interested in us. Looking for feedback on this issue from a new NOAH member from Arkansas.

    Good Afternoon, Erika:

You posed the question:  How are you all dealing with being single and dealing with your parents?

**My answer is that my mother wants only the best for her only daughter.  My father is unfortunately deceased.  It's not like "the old times" where women can marry a man and depend on him to provide and run the household and supply the money.  My mom always told me to do what I want, when I want, and eventually God will bless me with someone to love, and that someone will love me too.  I am 30 years old with no kids--and that's a pretty big deal....I guess I am not worried about when I will marry.  I am not too concerned with how people see me on the outside because if they cannot take time to know who I am, then....it's not worth it.  And that's why I'm still single.  THAT, and the fact that I don't take any BULL---- from men.

BUT....I am reviewing resumes and accepting applications if there are any suitable candidates????? LOL.....

    Hello Ladies....

Everytime I call my mother the conversation always ends the same way "when are you getting married?" I tell her I will marry when I want and she goes on and on about how I dont want her to have any grand children. I guess she fails to see that dating women is not the problem but rather finding one with whom I am willing to spend the rest of my life with. it is pointless getting into somethng you will be out of in a few years down the road.  I dont really think that being albino has anything to do with getting married. if you want to you will but if you dont find that special person .....well keep on looking . And then again the first rule of business comes to play. What is this rule you may ask.....location location and location.  For everything we do in live, being in the right place at the right time is all that matters. You cannot put a Lemonade stand on back alley and expect to sell .....

Keep your head up....you will get there

You know,  what tickles me so, is how much we value our mothers' opinions. I try not to stress out about her anymore and just tell her about the trend our generation is in. My mom is great. I just wanted to know what others are experiencing in life. Thanks for your response.

    Hi, Erika and Redman:

I liked your comments.  Sorry Erika if I was a bit over zealous with my answer. My experience with dating has always been positive, even though things did not necessarily work out.  I soak up my relationships as experiences, and have been lucky enough to know what I want in a companion--and what I don't want. I am just hoping for a companion that will be open minded and free spirited enough to deal.........are you going to the conference?

Yes I will be at the conference and your comments were welcomed. No, I was not offended in the least. I just wanted to hear and know who other persons of color with albanism were getting along in life in the area of dating and relating and family impact. If you will be in Vegas I hope we meet and continue to exchange ideas and experiences. I have had some good experiences. This form is a good place to share info and experiences.

Hey Staci, is the Sister Chat geared for African American women? I was not sure if that is what that meant.
