That is right - a 7 month old baby with albinism was savagely murdered for body parts in Tanzania.  27 others persons with albinism, of various ages have also been brutally killed, their body parts hacked off to sell in potions to witch doctors. 

The Under The Same Sun Fund (www.underthesamesun.com) in partnership with Positive Exposure (www.positiveexposure.org) are asking everyone in the albinsim community to sign a petition.  A team is going over to Tanzania in October to meet the albinism community there, as well they will meeting senior government officials to address this issue and present a petition with thousands of names from around the world.   A Tanzanian trader was arrested not long ago by police in The Democratic Republic of The Congo as he was transporting the head of a person with albinism.  He told police whe planned to sell it to someone by the weight.

That is so sad!  Thanks for the information.  I wish there was more that we could do for them.

Good evening! 

I also want to ask others to sign the petition.  I went to Africa for three weeks this summer to visit a friend who is serving in Uganda for the US Peace Corps.  My classmates and the members of my family's church stepped up and sent me over with donations and money for the children I worked with, but more important, I took over a large duffel bag of sunscreen and sunglasses.  Peace Corp volunteers are currently distributing these life saving items throughout Uganda, Tanzania, and other East African countries.  There is no access to these life saving items over there. 

One of my professors suggested that people write to the sunscreen companies and ask them to routinely send supplies over.  Is this something anyone is interested in doing?  Currently, I feel as if I have too many other committments and don't have enough time to work on this.  However, I don't believe this project would be too time consuming.  If anyone is interested in helping, please e-mail me and I would be happy to pass along what information I have.

Peter- I commend you on your efforts in Africa, what a tremendous job you are doing! It is so important to have people all over the world to step up and take responsibility, and help those less fortunate, just like you have done and still do.

I have started a project in collaboration with the Norwegian albinism organization NFFA, www.albinisme.no  to help people suffering from albinism in Uganda, Africa.

I know some people with albinism don't like the phrase "suffering" from albinism but belive me...in many African countries this is unfortunately the harsh truth, their suffering is beyond belief to most of us.

I have actually sent "tons" of emails to both sunscreen companies as well as companies selling ufp/spf clothing, - Norwegian and American, asking them to please donate products to our cause. So far I have not been succesful, but I keep trying!

 If you have any ideas of better ways to go about it, or any other information that might be useful I would be thankful for your help!

PS! I got an email from a journalist today who wants to interview David Wangode in Kampala in regards to our cause, and I am super excited about that. This will make our cause known in Denmark as well, as it was a Danish reporter asking for the interview :))
