  • Infant diagnosed with ocular albinism - what next?

My 4 month old was recently diagnosed with ocular albinism. The ophthalmologist said there wasn't anything we could do at this point and we just have a follow up visit in a few months. I'm concerned that I'm losing valuable time to do vision therapy or anything else that might help my son...

  • Re: My 1 year old has Ocular Albinism - Many Questions! Your help is much appreciated!

Hi, we live in Miami and my 4-year old son has OA, nystagmus and astigmatism. Since kids learn primarily though visual stimulus, there are significant advantages to finding out what the eysight is and wearing corrective lenses if your child has other issues besides the OA. However, the most significant...

  • Re: tenotomy nystagmus surgery in NY/NJ anyone?

Felicia, I believe the other place you can go to have the surgery done is Akron Ohio. Dr. Bernstein also does the tenotomy surgery at Akron Children Children's Hospital. If you do a search or Akron Children's and Tenotomy you should come across a video of Doctor Bernstein doing the surgery. Here...

After seeing an Opthamologist at Stanford he diagnosed him with Ocular Albinism. We have done much research and understand that his vision will never be 20/20. This...

  • Vision Update- 2 years 9 months

Lyra had a check-up with her pediatric ophthalmologist last month. They didn’t dialate her eyes at this visit. The health of her eyes is good, normal. Her nystagmus hasn’t changed…it remains minimal, in both the speed and the distance of the eye movements. The alignment of her eyes...

Has anyone else ever heard of this definition of nystagmus before? I always thought it was muscle/brain related, not light related. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=killing-albinos-tanzania-albinism&page=2

  • Re: Patterson!

I just watched Gov. Paterson on The Colbert Report. What an inspiring human being. To see someone with nystagmus on a prime time cable show was a very exciting and inspiring! There are so many people out there paving the way for people with low vision, and people with nystagmus. There are no limits...

  • Vision Update - 2 years 3 months

Lyra had an appointment with her pediatric ophthalmologist this month, a check-up that was originally scheduled for the end of September. Several weeks ago, we lost one of the lenses from Lyra’s glasses. After over a week of searching, I gave up. We knew we had to get her a new pair. I didn’t...
